Iraqi military sources revealed that the Islamic State (ISIS) militants launched an attack on Anbar province, near the borders with Jordan and Saudi Arabia, while fierce clashes continue between Iraqi Joint Forces and ISIS militants in Al Mamoun neighborhood in the right side of Mosul city.
A source in Anbar said that ISIS militants besieged an Iraqi border guards camp in Anada area, on Saturday. The border guards camp is located between two border crossings; Tarbil in Jordan and Arar in Saudi Arabia, according to BBC.
The source added that the besieged forces sent distress calls to the Iraqi forces for military aids and put an end to the intensive besiege. The source noted that the ammunition of the border guards will finish soon, amid fears of expected massacre in the area. Media reports said that about 10 border guards were killed in the clashes with the ISIS militants.
In the last week, a suicide explosion carried out by ISIS has targeted a military site near the borders with Jordan, leaving 15 soldiers killed. It came amid the fierce clashes between the ISIS militants and Iraqi Joint Forces who aim to liberate Mosul from the extremist group.
Meanwhile, leader of Iraq Police Shaker Gawdet said that the security forces managed to thwart an IED planted in a motorbike near the Mosul Airport, adding that the security forces destroyed a number of barriers built by ISIS in the area.
