Bags for spring/summer 2012

Bags for spring/summer 2012 In a clever and witty nod to Bally’s Swiss provenance, creative directors Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler incorporated a mountain goat motif to hang from each of their bags for spring/summer 2012. And at the

presentation in Milan this week, they went one step further and even presented the said bags on life-size – though not real – mountain goats. A fun way for their guests to be greeted before they took a look round and eyed up the offerings from the new season – which took their influences from “modern romance” combined with “sportswear”.

An interesting mix, but it worked. Bally is an established brand with plenty of heritage and history. Mix this with images of lace-dressed debutantes and photographs of working class teenagers from the Sixties and you have all the ingredients for the duo’s new collection. So, laser-cut and perforated leather and sports mesh in meadow greens and glacier blues – again those nods to the Swiss heritage step in – on A-line or trapeze dresses and embroidered lace T-shirts.

Its’ the second collection from Herz and Fidler and it sees them approach the house with a luxe yet modern approach.
Of course, it’s a brand whose reputation lies strongly in shoes and bags too – this season the former are dainty sandals in colours from rose to red and the latter are lace-embroidered, petal appliquéd and mirror-covered and the new shapes to note are the pouch, the A-frame and the boxy clutch.
