Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Transport Department and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, has stressed on the department's commitment to sustainability, alternative modes of transport and healthy lifestyles.
The remark comes ahead of The Cycle-to-Work Initiative to be launched by the National Newspaper on Tuesday at Khalifa Park at Al Salam St..
Sheikh Sultan said, "By supporting the Cycle to Work initiative, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability; alternative modes of transport and healthy lifestyles. Let's all put ourselves in touch with the beauty of our capital closer and more often by riding bicycles." He added that alternative modes of transport not only mean fewer cars on the road, but also mean less transport emissions, contributing to better and cleaner environment. Regular cycling in particular improves health and fitness, and physically-active citizens are an asset to society.
"While we are still working at the DoT on making our roads more pedestrian and bicycle friendly, I call upon drivers to share the road and yield to cyclists. Finally, this is an invitation to all of us to wear proper cycling safety gear; ride our bicycles more often and pedal towards a healthier lifestyle," Sheikh Sultan said.
