Geneva - Arab Today
World Cancer Day (WCD) 2015, being observed today under the tagline 'Not Beyond Us', presses governments to take action and highlights that there are solutions within the reach of the population.
WCD is observed on February 4 every year. Its campaign aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) said.
The global event unites the world's population in the fight against cancer.
This year's campaign explores early detection, treatment and care. It focuses on four key areas: choosing healthy lives, delivering early detection, achieving treatment for all and maximising quality of life.
WCD is an initiative of the UICC, an international NGO, that unites the cancer community to reduce the global burden of the disease.
Founded in 1933 and based in Geneva, UICC has a membership of over 800 organisations across 155 countries, features the world's major cancer societies, ministries of health, research institutes, treatment centres and patient groups.
