The World Health Organisation (WHO) has commended the initiative of General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of U.A.E. Armed Forces, to eradicate polio in the world by the year 2018 and his generous support to the drive to help 3.6 million children in Pakistan get vaccinated against polio, ordered by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This came during a speech given by WHO Director-General Margaret Chan at the high level meeting of the global polio eradication partners, held Monday in Geneva.
In 2011, Sheikh Mohamed and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a strategic partnership whereby a total amount of US$100 million, divided equally between the two parties, was presented for the purchase and delivery of vital vaccines for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Mohamed bin Zayed receives US Secretary of the Treasury
His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces, has received Jacob Lew, United States Secretary of the Treasury and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the country.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the visit of the Secretary of the Treasury and discussed with him bilateral relations between the U.A.E. and the United States and ways of boosting them in light of the ties of friendship that link both countries and their common strategic interests.
