Minister Adel Al-Jubeir

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir has stressed that Hezbollah is a terrorist organisation and that Lebanon would not enjoy peace unless it is disarmed.

In a press conference with his Spanish counterpart, Alfonso Dastis, Al-Jubeir added: “Hezbollah must be disarmed, and become a political party for the sake of Lebanon’s stability.”

He also affirmed that the Hezbollah terrorist militia should be allowed to operate outside the law.

He also stressed that Hezbollah failed to help Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri's government, emphasising that Saudi Arabia has always supported Lebanon and the Taif Agreement.

Al-Jubeir also praised Spain’s role in the Middle East.

The Saudi Foreign Minister also said in a press conference held with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, in Riyadh yesterday that the basis of the crisis in Lebanon is Hezbollah, adding that it kidnapped the Lebanese regime and tried to impose its authority and influence on Lebanon and impede the political process.

Hezbollah is a tool at the hands of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, as its Secretary-General admitted, Al-Jubeir said.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Jubeir pointed out that Hezbollah poses a threat to Lebanon and the region.

"There is consensus or near consensus that Hezbollah is a terrorist organisation of the highest order. It must respect the laws and the sovereignty of Lebanon and the Taif Accord and must disarm," Al-Jubeir concluded.
