An Australian aid worker who was abducted in Afghanistan in May has been rescued by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in the country's eastern Nangarhar province, the agency said Monday.
Kerry Jane Wilson, 60, was "safely" rescued "from kidnappers during a special operation by Afghan forces.
Wilson was working for a local non-governmental organization when she was kidnapped from her office by armed men wearing military uniforms in the eastern city of Jalalabad, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
NDS said several suspects were arrested in connection with Wilson's kidnapping and further investigation is ongoing.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in a statement confirmed the news, adding that Wilson is now safe and well.
