Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, currently in Brussels, stressed that there are no refugee or immigrant camps on Egyptian territories, saying refugees live alongside Egyptians freely having the same services offered to them.
What Egypt needs is support of its abilities to secure an appropriate life to all refugees, Shoukry said during a meeting with European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, in a press release, said talks covered Egyptian stance towards illegal immigration and the EU readiness to cooperate with Egypt in border control domain.
Shoukry reviewed Egypt's anti-immigration efforts, citing the formation of the national committee to fight illegal migration and the endorsement of anti-immigration law in the parliament.
The EU official stressed that the union does not want to set up any refugee camps in Egypt but would like to support Egyptian capabilities via carrying out projects for capability building and vocational training to address the illegal immigration problem.
