Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said on Monday that the National League for Democracy (NLD)-led new government will start to construct new good things for a change beginning from the new year while abiding by NLD's policies and principles.

Suu Kyi reiterated NLD's policies and principles to ensure national reconciliation, internal peace, rule of law, amendment to the constitution and keeping the democratic system dynamic and well ingrained.

In her message on the occasion of Myanmar traditional new year after five days' water festival and her successful eyes operation, Aung San Suu Kyi insisted that a democratically elected government is responsible for all citizens, being fair and square to everybody, harboring loving kindness and compassion towards all.

For the sake of national reconciliation and rule of law, she said the president has shown leniency and magnanimity by granting amnesty to a number of prisoners on the new year occasion.

Speaking of peace which cannot be built without rule of law, she expressed no intention to abandon the activities and actions of the previous regime, recognizing their good deeds and promising to continue to build on them.

Regarding the internal peace process, Suu Kyi highly appreciated their ceasefire initiative.

Emphasizing the need for constitutional amendment for the emergence of a genuine and federal democratic union, Suu Kyi said the government will choose ways and means that would not adversely affect the national peace and which is the principle that NLD sticks to.

She stressed the importance of the basic principle No. 4 of the constitution -- the sovereign power descends from the countrymen.

With regard to the saying that Myanmar abounds in natural resources, Suu Kyi said what really counts is the strength of the people but not resources because they can be deplete someday, citing some small countries which lack natural resources but are have achieved economic growth.

In face of different challenges facing the new administration, Suu Kyi said the country has a lot of things to change and transform, calling for participation and cooperation of the people.

Citing an old saying of her father General Aung San in the aftermath of the World War II , she said the world is developing very fast and Myanmar needs much greater effort to catch up.

She said she wants Myanmar people to stand tall among the world nations and feel proud to be Myanmars wherever they go.

"We have to strive hard for that. When we pleaded for popular support, We didn't give an easy promise. We have never said our country will prosper overnight," she added.

On Myanmar's foreign policy, Suu Kyi said since the regain of the country's independence in 1948, Myanmar has maintained good relations with all parts of the world.

Concerning the new government's administration and management, Suu Kyi said "We have no idea of ignoring the people from the old regime. We want everybody who can bring benefit to the country to join our hands".

Quoting again her father's saying, Suu Kyi said " The country would be ruled based on loving kindness and loyalty" which she explained that the countrymen will be loved and the government will be loyal to the country.

After Myanmar's five-day water festival from last Tuesday to Saturday , the country's new year was ushered in on Sunday .
