Nine terrorists were killed in a shootout with the police in Sharqiya

Nine terrorists were killed in Egypt’s Sharqiya governorate during a shootout with the police, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The terrorists were hiding in a farm in El Salheya El Gedida in Sharqiya where they trained on using weapons and planned their terrorist operations in North Sinai.

The terrorists were also involved in planting explosive devices and targeting security locations and military vehicles in the North Sinai province. Their attacks killed and injured a number of policemen.

Security forces raided their hideout at dawn and a shootout ensued when terrorists opened fire. Nine terrorist were thus killed. Automatic machineguns and ammunition were found in their possession.

Meanwhile, security forces in Cairo arrested nine terrorists. A machinegun, ammunition, TNT and other material used to manufacture explosives were found in their possession.

According to the Interior Ministry, four of these nine terrorists are involved in an attack that targeted security forces in Giza in July this year. The attack injured an army recruit and a passerby.

The ministry added that there are “organizational links” between the terrorist members captured and the terrorist Brotherhood organization, adding that the former had received financial aid from a party affiliated with the latter.
