Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has led the UAE delegation to 1st Global Sustainable Transport Conference being held from 26th to 27th November 2016 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in cooperation with the United Nations.
The conference was opened by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow with participation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, heads of governments, ministers, heads of private sector companies and others.
Sheikh Sultan conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to Berdimuhamedow, wishing further progress, development and welfare to the Turkmen people.
He also praised the distinguished relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan at the level of the two countries' leadership and their keenness on developing them, especially in the economic fields for the best interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. He added that the UAE seeks to adopt the best international practices to achieve the best legislations and standards to develop sustainable transport.
The Global Sustainable Transport Conference brings together key stakeholders from governments, UN system and other international organisations, the private sector, and civil society to engage in a dialogue that emphasises the integrated and cross-cutting nature of sustainable transport and its multiple roles in supporting the achievement of the SDGs. All modes of transport road, rail, aviation, ferry and maritime will be addressed.
The opening ceremony and the sessions of the conference were also attended by Hasan Abdullah Al Adhab, UAE Ambassador to Turkmenistan.
