After over a decade, Virgin Atlantic has announced a redesign of its original uniform overseen by British designer, Vivienne Westwood. The collaboration is a 10 year, long-term project which will see a total redesign of the uniform across all areas. For the new uniforms Vivienne Westwood wanted to create a futuristic look referencing her interest in 1940’s French couture as well as the Savile Row tailoring heritage. Alongside the women’s and men’s cabin crew and pilot’s uniforms, which will be unveiled later this year, all Virgin Atlantic uniforms from Clubhouse staff to the Virgin Holidays team will be redesigned by the designer. Passengers will receive a preview of the new uniforms on board from June ahead of the full launch in 2014. With the sustainability of the uniform being a key factor in the design process the uniform will be produced by Virgin using recycled materials - in particular working with recycled polyester yarn made from used plastic bottles.
