AL MUKALLA - Muslimchronicle
Major General Faraj Salmeen Al Bahsani, Governor of Hadramaut, stated that the legitimate Yemeni government is currently managing the central prison in Al Mukalla while the role of the members of the Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, especially the UAE, is limited to the restoration and maintenance of Yemeni prisons, which comply with international human rights standards.
He made this statement during his visit to the central prison in Al Mukalla, which was destroyed and vandalised by coup supporters and was restored according to international standards.
Al Bahsani clarified that the process of maintenance, which was done with Emirati support, aims to guarantee compliance with international humanitarian and human rights requirements, through providing high standards of prison services that respect the humanity of inmates. The UAE’s security forces have also organised many training sessions for Yemeni security personnel about laws and regulations related to the inmates and how to deal with them, he added.
Major General Al Bahsani expressed his appreciation to the Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen in general, and the UAE especially, for their support in restoring the central prison in Al Mukalla and providing equipment for all its sections and facilities for inmates.
He said that the prison has been suitably equipped with all the necessary facilities for inmates with regards to providing nutrition and healthcare services and an administrative office, to guarantee the provision of integrated services. The rights of inmates are also guaranteed during their time in the prison, he further added.
Al Bahsani affirmed that the prison’s current equipment is much better than its previous equipment, due to the support of the coalition’s countries, especially the UAE.
The central prison in Al Mukalla was destroyed and vandalised when it was being controlled by the coup supporters over the city, he noted while highlighting the importance of its restoration with all the required facilities and sections, in order to conduct its role.
