The number of constructed buildings in Abu Dhabi reached 913 during the second quarter of 2017 compared to 751 buildings during the same period of 2016, a growth rate of 21.6 percent.
Construction experts have stated that the increasing pace of construction in Abu Dhabi reflects its ongoing urban renaissance during the two last decades, along with the growth rate of its population and its overall comprehensive development.
According to statistics from the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, residential buildings constitute 85.5 percent of the total completed buildings during the second quarter of the current year, totalling 781 buildings, while 38 public facilities buildings and 37 industrial buildings were also constructed, as well as 31 residential buildings and 26 buildings that are classified as both residential and commercial.
The Abu Dhabi region occupies the first position in terms of the number of constructed buildings in the whole emirate, with 470 buildings being constructed by the end of the second quarter of this year compared to 398 during the same period of 2016, a growth rate of 18.1 percent.
The number of constructed buildings in the Al Ain region totalled 395 during the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, a growth rate of 23 percent. In the Al Dhafra region, the number of constructed buildings reached 48 compared to 32 buildings during the same period, according to the statistics from the centre.
Regarding the details on the relative distribution of buildings in the Abu Dhabi region, Mohamed bin Zayed City occupies the first position with a growth rate of 22 percent of newly constructed buildings during the second quarter of 2017, followed by Al Shamkha with 13 percent, Khalifa City with 12.8 percent, Bani Yas with 9.4 percent, and 42 percent for the rest of the region’s areas.
The forecasted average cost of construction per square metre, depending on area and dimension, is AED2,627 for an area between 300 and 599 square metres in Abu Dhabi, and AED2,564 for the same area in Al Ain and AED2,333 in Al Dhafra.
