H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Thursday inaugurated the Islamic Manuscripts House at Al Qasimia University, in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed unveiled the curtain to mark the official opening of the Islamic Manuscripts House and inspected the facilities of the House, which is built in an Islamic style and contains various manuscripts that date back hundreds of years.
During the inauguration ceremony, Sheikh Sultan also reviewed the manuscripts displayed in the lobby of the House, which includes the oldest manuscripts dating back to the fifth century A.H.
The manuscripts and documents presented to Al Qasimia University are the most precious and rare historical manuscripts collected by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah during his visits to various countries of the world.
The House was designed according to the best international specifications in areas of document preservation and restoration, archiving, and classification.
The two-storey House of Manuscripts, built on an area of 2,800 square metres, contains a lot of services and technical facilities.
During the opening ceremony, the ruler of Sharjah honoured Juma Al Majid, the founder of Juma Al-Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage in Dubai, and Dr. Abdul Wahid Al Nabawi Abdul Wahid, for their efforts in preserving manuscripts and historical documents.
The ceremony was attended by a number of Sheikhs, dignitaries, senior local officials, directors of government departments, writers and specialists.
