Gazan fishermen

Israeli gunboats opened fire on Palestinian vessels off the Gaza Strip shores on Thursday, according to local sources.

Israel arrested the seven fishermen on board and confiscated their boats.

Under the Oslo accord signed in 1993, fishing is allowed 20 miles off the enclave.

Yet, the Israeli gunboats attacked the Gazan fishermen at a six-mile distance, said the sources.

According to official figures, there are 3,500 fishermen in the Gaza Strip.
