Rabat - Muslimchronicle
A child died and two members of her family were injured in a fire that broke out Wednesday night in their house in Rabat.
The eight-year-old Hajar died of asphyxiation following the incident, which took place at 10.00 p.m., while two other girls were injured with third-degree burns and were hospitalized in Ibn Sina hospital to receive the necessary care.
Neighbours rushed to save the girls and successfully brought the two out of the house. But they were unable to save Hajar’s life as she was hiding in the closet.
In a video by the Moroccan news outlet Soltana the deceased’s mother explains, in tears that she had to leave the girls alone to beg for a living.
The neighbours who intervened complained about the Civil Protection elements’ service, as they personally had to enter the house and take the girls to the hospital in a taxi.
In a Hespress video report, the neighbours said that “the fire brigade only arrived about two hours later.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown, as the mother explained that she has no electricity in her house. The only thing suspected of causing the fire is a phone charger.
An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the incident.
