Lamu - Muslimchronicle
Kenyan soldiers destroyed a Al-Shabaab camp in the coastal Lamu region and killed four militants on Tuesday, said Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) spokesman David Obonyo.
Obonyo said the raid, which took place in the general area of Mararani in Lamu County, also saw the soldiers recover four AK 47 rifles, six magazines, three grenades, three car batteries, rolls of cable, three mobile phones and assorted foodstuffs.
"It is believed that several other terrorists escaped with injuries. The camp is believed to be training and operations base for the terrorists," Obonyo said in a statement.
Obonyo said the raid was conducted by soldiers who have been combing the vast Boni forest used by Al-Shabaab as their hideout and also to launch attacks against the locals.
He said the training camp is believed to be the launching base for recent attacks on Kenyans in the area.
"KDF appeals to the local population to report any suspicious individuals with injuries and or seeking medical attention in the area to security agencies within their reach," Obonyo said.
He assured the public that the operations against the Al-Qaida allied terrorist group will continue until peace is realized in the Lamu enclave.
The Al-Shabaab have changed tactics and resorted to using improvised explosive devices to carry out attacks in parts of the coast region and North Eastern, according to police.
The militant group is believed to have fighters operating in the area's Boni forest that has poor communication network and terrains slowing down police operations.
