Rabat - Rachid Bougha    Â
Nabila Mounib Rabat - Rachid Bougha Moroccan politician Nabila Mounib, announced that she is running for the leadership of the Unified Socialist Party, to be the first woman in Morocco to lead a well-known leftist party. Mounib, who is the strongest candidate for this position, said in a press statement that there are several names that were mentioned for the party leadership, including Mohamed Sassi, however, he announced last week his unwillingness to be a member in the party’s political bureau, pointing out that it is her first time to run for leading the party. Mounib’s statement came after the closing of the party’s third forum, on December 16 to December 18, dubbed 'A Parliamentary Monarchy Now', in which the party scheduled the elections to be next Friday. Moroccan political analysts think Mounib is the strongest candidate for this position, as she is politically qualified; being a member of the party’s political bureau, as well as academically qualified; being a university professor. They also believe that Mohamed Sassi’s decision not to run for this position paves the way for Mounib's success to be the first Moroccan woman who leads a leftist pary. It is worth mentioning that the Unified Socialist Party boycotted the recent Moroccan elections, describing it as “sham elections”
