Cairo - Hossam Al Said
Ehyptian club al-Ahly's volleyball team has continued its dominance at the domestic and international level by winning its maiden Egypt Cup. Ahly beat counterparts Zamalek in the 2012/2013 season finale at the Military Academy stadium in Aswan, southern Egypt. After four closely contested sessions, Ahly emerged victorious by three points. The Cairo-based club edged the first session by 25 points to 21, but struggled in the second, falling short by a score of 25 points to 23. Ahly regained composure in the third session to clinch it by 25 points to 21, but Zamalek fought back in fourth and final session with a 25 points to 20 advantage. The success of the Ahly's volleyball team comes days after the handball side beat Tunisian's Hammamet to land the African Cup. Ahly's board of directors headed by Captain Hassan Hamdi congratulated the volleyball and handball teams, and lauded their efforts at a time when the club is facing severe financial difficulties.
