Rodney Williams scored 14 points and Julian Welch added 10 for the Golden Gophers (13-5, 1-4 Big Ten), who had lost four straight. Minnesota shot 6 of 13 on 3-pointers in the first half to take the lead, then maintained it by scoring in the paint and grabbing 12 offensive rebounds in the second half. Indiana freshman Cody Zeller matched a season high with 23 points for the Hoosiers (15-2, 3-2). Jordan Hulls scored 13, Will Sheehey 12 and Victor Oladipo 10 for Indiana, which had won three straight. Austin Rivers and Seth Curry added 11 points apiece for the Blue Devils (14-2, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). Despite an off night from 3-point range, they shot 52 percent against one of the league’s stingiest defenses, put together a game-changing run shortly after halftime, then held off Virginia’s late push to claim their second straight win. Mike Scott scored 23 points for the Cavaliers (14-2, 1-1). They pulled within three on Akil Mitchell’s stickback dunk with 47.6 seconds left, then forced a stop and had the ball with about 13 seconds left. The Gamecocks (6-13, 1-5) never led in the first half and Murray State went into the break up by three. Jacksonville State committed 10 more fouls than the Racers, who forced 20 turnovers. NO. 20 MISSISSIPPI STATE 62, TENNESSEE 58: In Starkville, Dee Bost had a crucial steal and dunk on the final possession of the game and Mississippi State survived a late scare to beat Tennessee. Mississippi State (14-3, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) avoided its first 0-2 start in league play since 2003. The Bulldogs led by 12 early in the second half, but Tennessee cut it to 60-58 on Renaldo Woolridge’s 3-pointer with 44.2 seconds remaining. Tennessee got the ball back on a steal by Skylar McBee and had a chance to tie or win with seconds remaining, but Bost slapped the ball away from Trae Golden and drove for the game-sealing dunk. Brad Waldow added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Stephen Holt had 13 points and six assists for the Gaels (16-2, 5-0) at a rocking McKeon Pavilion, where a standing-room only crowd packed the arena for a nationally televised showdown that’s always the biggest draw of the season here. Students stormed the court after the final buzzer. Elias Harris had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Kevin Pangos scored 12 for the Bulldogs (13-3, 3-1), who had their eight-game winning streak snapped.
