Paris - Arab Today
Italy sent Monday Spain crashing out of the Euro 2016, after the latter dominated the competition over the past eight years.
Spain had defeated Italy in the final 4-0, four years ago. Today was a different story as a heroic display from Italy sealed a 2-0 victory.
Defender Giorgio Chiellini tapped in Italy's opener in the first half and only an impressive goalkeeping performance from David de Gea kept Vicente del Bosque's men in with a chance.
The second half saw Spain dominating almost all of the possession. However it was a fruitless pursuit as just after Pique missed an equalizer in the final minutes of the game, Italy doubled their lead through Graziano Pelle with the perfect counter attack.
Italy will face Germany in the quarter-finals.
