Egyptian parliamentarian Ahmed Al Tantawy blamed the performance of the Egyptian parliament during the current period, saying that they attempt to distract the attention from the violation committed by the Egyptian parliament through collecting signatures.
He said, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, that the parliament’s performance is extremely frustrating, saying that the majority of Egyptian parliamentarians failed to meet the aspirations of Egyptian citizens who elected them in all over the country. He added that Speaker of Egypt’s parliament should bear the responsibility of such failure.
He also blamed the parliamentarians of Egypt’s Support parliamentary coalition, saying that they performed a major role to pass the shameful laws that affected the daily life of the Egyptian citizens.
Regarding the measures taken against him, he said that they used my protest against the passage of Convention on the demarcation of maritime boundaries in which the Egyptian government provided sovereignty on two Red Sea islands.
He warned of the current wave of inflation witnessed in the country after the recent decision taken by Egypt’s government to increase the prices of commodities and oil. He expressed his concern over the repercussions of such decision during the current critical period.
He added that the Egyptian government suffers from budget deficit during the coming period as a result of the lack of income available to cover expenses. He stressed, “We have taken several decisions included in the report approved by the Council to reduce the deficit, including the reduction of items of reserves and expenses of a character of nature, such as advertising expenses in addition to the proposal to impose a new fee on applicants for legalization of land abused in order to increase revenues for the state.”
He stressed that the Egyptian citizens face increasing problems on both social and economic levels, while the government and other executive officials focus on executing specific agendas that are not related to the life of the Egyptian people. He stressed that the government failed to achieve any progress regarding the economic position of the Egyptian people.
