Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Makhlafi

Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Makhlafi said he had received a phone call from his Jordanian counterpart Ayman al-Safadi and discussed with him the latest Zionist escalation in Jerusalem and al-Aqsa.

Al-Makhlafi indicated in statements for Arabs Today that he agreed with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to call for an urgent meeting of Arab foreign ministers to discuss developments in Jerusalem and al-Aqsa.

He stressed that Yemen supports the efforts exerted by Jordan on the Palestinian file to preserve the legal and historical status of Al-Aqsa and the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem and to remove the gates of the occupation.

Al-Makhlafi said that Yemen condemns the terrorist practices by the Zionist state against the defenseless Palestinian people. He said that the international community's disregard for these violations constitutes fertile ground for terrorism practiced by the Zionist state.

He pointed out that such acts of terrorism are contrary to all human, moral and religious values and that the Yemeni government condemns all measures of the Zionist occupation from storming al-Aqsa and preventing people from Friday prayers for the first time in 48 years as well as arresting the Mufti of Jerusalem.

The Yemeni Foreign Minister described Israel's practice against the unarmed people, which is contrary to the values and customs of humanity and denounced by all religions. He added taht such acts do not serve the international efforts to revive the peace process in the Middle East.

Al-Makhlafi explained that the situation experienced by the Arab nation and its countries enabled Israel, for the first time in 48 years, to stop praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, considering that the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a dangerous escalation of terrorism practiced by the Zionist state against the Palestinian people and its religious sanctities.
