Part of a mixed programme, Kenneth MacMillan\'s virtuoso ballet combines youthful energy and technical precision. Marking the start of a new phase in MacMillan’s career, Concerto features a score of youthful vivacity, Dmitri Shostakovich\'s Piano Concerto no.2 in F, which was created to mark the 19th birthday of the composer\'s son. Complementing the precision and invention of Shostakovich\'s score, MacMillan’s choreography features a slow, sensuous Andante with a pas de deux inspired by seeing his friend and muse Lynn Seymour, and a spirited close, with a large corps de ballet dancing with quick, prancing steps. Concerto, Las Hermanas and Requiem are performed together.
