Luis Felipe Céspedes.

Morocco is a gateway for Chile to African markets, said Chilean minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Luis Felipe Céspedes.

Morocco and Chile are special gateways to African and Latin American markets, respectively, Céspedes told MAP after a meeting with a Moroccan parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker of the House of Advisors (upper house), Abdelhakim Benchamach.

Morocco and Chile have much to do in order to promote their bilateral relations, particularly in the economic field, he said, expressing his country’s willingness to share the best experiences with Morocco in various areas, including tourism, fisheries and SMEs.

For his part, Benchamach said that trade between the two countries falls short of the aspirations, calling, in this regard, for taking advantage of the available opportunities and initiating a reflection on the launch of a direct air link between Santiago and Casablanca.

Morocco has become a “major economic hub” following the launch of several structuring projects and sectoral strategies, he said, adding that the Kingdom has a strong presence on the African continent.

The Speaker of the upper house arrived on Monday in Santiago. He held a series of meetings with several Chilean officials.
