Army leaders in Nouakchott, Mauritania have been called to take part in a special meeting. Many have speculated on the issue of the meeting, some believing it relates to security concerns following the recent attack on the MauritanianPresident, while others claim a demonstration is on the way. French Foreign Legion General Clema Dolo met military leaders in Nouakchott to discuss security issues in Sahel, where a conflict with extremist groups in North Mali could erupt. Some have alleged that the French General is aiming to interfere in North Mali as France is pushing for a military intervention in the region, following Algeria’s green light for a foreign interference. The Mauritanian President is still slowly recovering from his attack, some sources have said. In a related context, West African defence ministers have met in Bamako have met on Tuesday in order to restore Mali’s power in the north of the country, where extremists have taken over. Some believe an intervention is to be expected soon.
