The UN Security Council Tuesday renewed a call for governments worldwide to cooperate in a bid to fight piracy at sea off the coast of Somalia. The council unanimously condemned piracy acts and called for the arrest, investigation and prosecution of pirates. It called on states and regional organizations that have the capacity to fight piracy to deploy ships, arms and military aircraft to seize vessels and equipment used by pirates, reported dpa. The council extended for another year the authorization for states to enter Somalia''s territorial waters to pursue pirates in cooperation with Somalia''s Transitional Federal Government. The UN said Somali pirates have captured dozens of ships and detained hundreds of hostages with the hope of obtaining ransoms for their release.
