A spokesman for Catalonia's separatist government denounced the detention of two influential pro-independence leaders late Monday as an act of provocation by the Spanish state.
"The state is playing at provocation... but people won't fall for provocation," Jordi Turull told Catalan channel TV3 after a court ordered Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sanchez to be detained after being charged with sedition.
