General Manager of Maintenance and the preservation of monuments Department Ayad Hamza and his accompanying delegation attended the first workshop held in the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage in Bahrain in coordination with the World Monuments Fund (WMF).
Hamza said: "the workshop addressed the presentation and explanation of the structure and the role of the world heritage committees affiliated to UNESCO and the icomos." He added that the workshop discussed the notes sent by UNESCO about Babylon archaeological site.
Hamza continued "The workshop also tackled other examples of world heritage sites at the local and regional level, and discussed the threats and challenges facing these sites."
Hamza stressed the need for mass media and press to raise community awareness of important property issues that threaten the value of archeological sites.
