The International Community is celebrating the “International Day for the Elimination of the Violence against Women” today.
This year, the United Nations launched a campaign themed “Leave no one behind: end violence against women and girls” to spread awareness across the world and mobilise all potentials in order to bring about a real change that benefit women and girls who are subjected to violence worldwide.
The Kingdom of Bahrain has dedicated all its efforts to counter all forms of violence against women thanks to the tremendous efforts exerted by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King, and through its access to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) while expressing some reservations on some of its provisions that are in conflict with the Islamic Sharia.
On the occasion, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has called on all the relevant authorities and civil society organisations to combat all forms of violence against women, being among the dangerous violations to human rights.
The NIHR reiterated its full support for all efforts aimed at enhancing Bahraini women’s status, respecting them and ensuring their enjoyment of all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights and privileges, in a way that does not conflict with the Islamic Sharia, the essence of the Islamic religion, as well as traditions and customs.
