Under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the SCW will officially celebrate the Bahraini Women’s Day 2017, under the theme “Women in the Engineering Field”.
The ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Arcapita building in the Bahrain Bay.
The celebration crowns a year-long series of activities organised by the SCW in cooperation with its partners. The events shed light on the progress made by Bahraini women, as well as on their achievements in various fields. They also highlighted their history laden with honourable models, and documented their quantum achievements that directly contributed to the overall development march witnessed by the Kingdom and consolidated their presence in the engineering field.
The dedication of this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day to women in the engineering fields is the result of their considerable contributions over the past forty years, or since the 1970s. Indeed, Bahrain women become professional engineers, particularly in the fields of chemical and civil engineering since 1977, architecture since 1978, and agricultural and electrical engineering since 1979.
This year’s celebration, the tenth of its kind, builds on the successful experiences accumulated over the last nine years since the Bahraini Women’s Day was officially announced as a national occasion to be marked each December 1, on which Bahraini women are honoured every year in a specific field, starting with educational, then health, voluntary work, economy, sports, the media, the military, banking and legal and judicial fields.
