Manama - Arab Today

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah said Wednesday that the GCC region was keen on bolstering strategic ties and relations with the UK, KUNA news agency reported.

He was speaking during the closing session of the 37th GCC Summit held in the Bahraini capital Manama.

The event is attended by British Prime Minister Theresa May and GCC leaders.

The Emir thanked the Bahraini monarch King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the people of Bahrain for hosting the 37th GCC Summit, saying that this reflects the Kingdom's efforts in boosting relations among nations within the regional and international arenas.

The current summit is within efforts to enhance strategic, economic, political and security cooperation between the UK and the GCC, affirmed the Emir, adding that history proved that relations between the two sides were built on trust and a strong desire to bring about security and stability to the region and the world.

Sheikh Sabah mentioned that the two sides were coordinating efforts at all levels.

On UK-Kuwaiti relations, Sheikh Sabah said that his country was proud to have historical ties with Great Britain, affirming that both nations were eager to bolster ties at all levels.

The Kuwaiti leader remembered the strong UK stance with his country during the
invasion.

The Emir concluded his speech by welcoming the British Prime Minister Theresa May to the region, re-affirming that the GCC will seek all venues to boost ties with the UK.
