Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has discussed with European energy companies, Dubai’s efforts to develop renewable and alternative energy, rationalise the use of natural resources, and find alternative solutions to conventional energy.
The discussion took place during his meeting with a delegation of these companies which included Daniel Develay, Chief Executive Officer of Belgium’s Tractebel Engineering, Michael Wuennemann, Executive Director of Energy at Lahmeyer International, Alain Vannerum, Managing Director of Middle East, and Ariadne Szekut, Product Manager – Energy System Consulting, at Tractebel Engineering.
MD and CEO of DEWA welcomed the delegation, and emphasised authority's commitment to enhancing cooperation with international companies to exchange the best and latest international experiences and practices in the energy sector.
He reviewed DEWA’s key programmes, projects and initiatives to achieve the vision of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to promote sustainability and a green economy in Dubai, and establish an infrastructure for electricity and water services in Dubai, as per the best international standards.
Al Tayer discussed the latest development on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar power project in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It has a total investment of AED 50 billion, and will produce 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030. Upon completion, the solar park will reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting Dubai’s objectives for sustainable development and a green economy.
He reviewed DEWA’s smart initiatives to support the Smart Dubai initiative to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world.
The delegation presented the latest solutions and technologies in traditional and renewable energy, and smart and sustainable solutions that contribute to the promotion of a low carbon economy. The delegation thanked Al Tayer for his warm welcome and his detailed overview of DEWA’s projects and exchanging views and best global experiences in the renewable and clean energy sector.
