SOLIDARITY: Dr. Ali-Al Ghamdi speaking at a symposium, “Nuclear Technology, Our Need and Obligation,” in Jeddah to mark Pakistan’s Youm-e-Takbeer.
Jeddah - Arab Today

A former Saudi diplomat considered Pakistan’s 1998 detonation of nuclear weapon as milestone in the country’s defense strategy, and hoped that the nuclear device remains a deterrent strategy “to avoid catastrophe in the region.”
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi was speaking at a symposium, “Nuclear Technology, Our Need and Obligation” to mark the 18th anniversary of Pakistan’s detonation of nuclear device some 18 years ago. The function was organized by the Pakistan Repatriation Council (PRC).
He said the nuclear technology should be used for peaceful purposes i.e. to produce electricity; medical and agricultural products etc; to benefit the common man of not only Pakistan but it can serve whole Muslim world which can increase value of export.
Referring to the nuclear program, PRC convener Syed Ehsanul Haque said Pakistan failed to take advantage of its peaceful use i.e. for electricity production, advancement in agriculture, medicine and other usage, which will help common man and also increase exports. He hailed Pakistan’s joining of the nuclear club.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Azeez Ahmed, general secretary, Pakistan Engineers Society; Choudhry Riaz Ghumman, Kashmir Committee; Shamsuddin Altaf, Pakistan Peoples Community; Maqboolur Rahman Abbasi, Pakistan Journalists Forum; Urdu writer Mohammad Amanatullah; Community leader Mohammad Ashfaque Badayouni, Tayyab Mosani; and Choudhry Rizwan Rasheed, president of Overseas Pakistani Journalists Forum.
Qari Abdul Majeed recited the holy verses from the Qur’an to begin the function, which was followed by a naat by Sher Afzal. Syed Musarrat Khalil conducted the program.
Poets like Syed Mohsin Alavi and Zamurrad Khan Saifi presented their poems on Youm-e-Takbeer.
