The statistical report issued by the Traffic and Patrol Department of the Sharjah Police revealed that 122 injuries occurred due to traffic accidents during the first half of 2017, according to Sharjah 24 news site.
Also, 21,805 violations were issued due to a failure to leave enough distance between vehicles. Out of this, 44 accidents resulted in injuries. Non-road violations and the use of phones while driving led to 11,523 violations being issued and 57 accidents. In addition, 14,147 violations and 21 accidents were recorded in prohibited places due to jumping signals.
Major Mohammed Ally Al-Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, said that speed violations are a major concern, even as Sharjah Police seek to take all possible preventive measures.
Al-Naqbi called on the public to drive carefully, wear seat belts, refrain from using phones, pay attention to signals, leave enough distance between vehicles, and adhere to their routes.
