H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved AED17 million to expand housing units for imams in Sharjah, in accordance with the number and needs of their family members.
Ruler of Sharjah called on the Directorate of Public Works, DPW, to speed up the implementation of works.
Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, head of DPW, said that the department, in coordination with the Islamic Affairs Department, carried out on-site visits to all houses of imams that need to be expanded.
The visits included noting the number of family members compared to the number of rooms in the housing, availability of the required space around the mosque for construction, and the architectural modifications resulting from expansion. The findings showed for a need to provide an expansion of 129 houses, and for work teams to be divided into seven teams that will be overlooking the expansion project of 20 mosques within a timespan of one year.
