The University of Sharjah and the National Anti-Doping Committee, NADO, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to strengthen their co-operation in the field of anti-doping.
The MoU was signed Dr. Humaid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Hashemi, Chairman of NADO.
The MoU aims to strengthen the co-operation between the two sides, by raising awareness, conducting necessary research and exchanging academic, professional and research expertise in this area. It also aims to support education and scientific research programmes, and to highlight the dangers of doping and its effects on athletes and the community in general.
The MoU also aims to establish the framework of basic co-operation between both sides while specifying their priorities, projects and programmes based on their specialities. The articles of the MoU can also be expanded later.
The University of Sharjah College of Medicine is known for its regional and international expertise in the field of medicine, which is reflected in the establishment of a medical research institute equipped with advanced programmes that meet international standards. NADO also has a regional and international reputation with regards to the health services it provides through the work of its medical centres.
Dr. Al-Hashemi expressed his happiness at the co-operation with the University of Sharjah, which he described as an advanced medical and humanitarian scientific institution, which serves the local community in an effective manner. He added that the MoU states the necessity of raising awareness about the dangers of all kinds of doping to athletes, so they can avoid making personal mistakes and being involved in legal issues.
