Three people have been confirmed dead and 15 others injured as heavy rainfall and flash flood hit Afghanistan's northern province of Badakhshan overnight, provincial director of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs (NDMA) said Sunday.
"Three villagers died and 15 others injured as a result of heavy shower and flooding which hit parts of Shiki district of Badakhshan last night," Sayed Abdullah Hamayon Dehqan told Xinhua.
The flooding also washed away or damaged 20 houses and several acres of farmland, the official added.
The NDMA personnel in coordination with local officials are trying to provide assistance to the affected people and an army helicopter will transfer the first aid and food packages later Sunday to the remote area, the official noted.
Natural disasters, including flood, earthquakes as well as landslides, frequently hit the mountainous province with Faizabad as its capital, 315 km northeast of Kabul.
