Up to 38 militants were killed following an Afghan forces' operation in Ghazni, eastern Afghanistan, a provincial government spokesman said on Sunday.
The Afghan Special Forces supported by the NATO's Resolute Support (RS) air power launched an operation on Saturday evening, leaving 38 fighters, including local al-Qaida-linked leader Qari Fazl Rahman and two Taliban local commanders dead in the restive Andar district of the province, spokesman Aref Noori told Xinhua.
No civilian casualties were reported in the conflict, said the spokesman.
The Afghan forces have beefed up security operations against militants as the war-weary people are facing upsurges in attacks by Taliban and IS militants across the country.
On Tuesday, 30 people including five civilians were killed and 15 others wounded after Taliban attacked the Andar district's office building and nearby facilities with car bombs and firearms.
