Manchester City once again showed the rest of the Premier League that it will take some effort to prevent them from strolling to the title after they beat West Brom having barely got out of third gear.
Goals from Leroy Sane, Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling were enough to beat the Baggies. Strikes from Jay Rodriguez and Matt Phillips added glass to the scoreline for the hosts but the reality was that it could have been a thumping victory and only underlined that Pep Guardiola’s men are the team to beat this campaign.
Having seen city rivals United narrow the gap at the top of the table to two points earlier in the day, City’s win saw the return of their five-point lead at the top.
Elsewhere Liverpool bounced back from last week’s 4-1 thrashing at Tottenham to beat Huddersfield 3-0 at Anfield. A missed penalty from Mohamed Salah mattered little as goals from Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum made sure of the three points in style.
And Wijnaldum said: “Every win is big for us and it was important because we had to give a reaction from the match last week. I think we did well.”
