United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, praised Bahraini women’s achievements in various fields and assuming leaderships posts, wishing them more successes to come.
In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) on the sidelines of the opening of the UN Women's Coordination Office, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka expressed delight in the opening of the UN Women’s office in Bahrain, saying the UN will work side by side with the government of Bahrain to back its ambitious national development programmes.
She said the opening of the UN Women’s office coincides with the global campaign to eliminate violence against women (16 November-10 December).
She said that she would discuss during her visit to Bahrain topics relating to eliminating violence against women, welcoming Bahrain’s readiness to cooperate with the UN through developing database and statistics related to domestic violence, which will vitally assist in eliminating violence against women.
